I asked Francis if he was the one who got into the container of chocolate Ovaltine. “No!”
Photos: Snow walk, 1/8/2011. Theo, Francis and I took a 1.6 mile walk through the corners of our very large block. I estimated we trespassed on twelve neighbor’s properties but as you can see most of the interior of the block is long-abandoned farm fields and woods.
Our walk ended in Penny Park, a local playground. The lack of footprints showed that we were the first there. Theo shows his snow plowing technique going down.
5yo Francis just starting singing us an unfamiliar song about Halloween. A quick Google search found the lyrics:
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate;
The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, “But I don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “I’m ready for some fun!”
The fifth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
“Wooooooo” went the wind,
And out went the lights.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
Francis watching Youtube: Francis’ latest obsession is watching Youtube videos of highway travel. Believe it or not, there’s a lot of videos of people driving across bridges and through cities recording the highway sights.
"Unlike a business, the Church exists first and foremost for the love and proper worship of God. It does not exist to serve man… At St. Mary’s we aren’t ashamed to say we love Christ, our community, our church, and the Church, and out of love for Jesus and our church we do things for ourselves. That may be “no way to run a business,” but it’s the way to run a church… And in the course of this work, which in some small way repairs our Holy Church, we might be blessed as Il Poverello [St Francis of Assisi]"

St Mary’s Festival (and Francis) featured in Phila Inquirer: The Feast of the Assumption Festival is front and center on page B-1 of today’s Philadelphia Inquirer with great photos from staff photographer Akira Suwa. Captions: “Sunday was a day of summer fun at the 87th annual Feast of the Assumption Carnival at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Malaga, Franklin Township. Top, Francis Heiland, 4, of Hammonton, splashes down a water slide. Above, the train ride was a popular attraction. Bottom: Colleen Bingam and Andrew Pron of Cape May carry their midway prizes. The carnival also featured a chicken barbecue and musical performances, and the day was to be capped off with a fireworks display.
Here’s how it looked on the page spread:
Francis walking around St Mary’s:
No non-pouring trip to St Mary’s Church is complete without loops through the surrounding gardens.
