I’m so totally loving how as the train pulls out of the tunnels it’s bathed in glorious sunlight. Quite a change from last time a month ago.
The Australian Friend is now online at AustralianFriend.org, as AYM agreed during Yearly Meeting in January 2012 in Perth.

For almost 200 years, we’ve been squabbling about who the real Quakers are. We’ve all headed off in high dudgeon to our various fortresses, currently named FGC, FUM, EFI and (Conservative), from which we occasionally sally forth to mingle with Them.

Since we unplugged coaxial cable there’s no way to watch Grammies. But then I’ve never watched more than 10 mins. I’ll rely on tweets.
When I hear Friends talk about Quakerism, I often find that our supposedly creedless faith is described in terms of what we believe (“we believe there is that of God..”, “we believe in equality, simplicity, etc.”). It is a beautiful process and one in which I was the recipient. Too often, in my experience, we want to do what we do in the secular world: listen briefly, then try to fix it for the person in question. Either that or leave it merely at listening.
Not that I’m signing any manifestos. I’ve already explicitly refused to lay any claim on being able to define “real” Friends. But I still want to know, does anyone care if you or I are Friends? Do you? Does God? Is any person’s life made more whole by the fact that you or I identify with Quakers?
A few years ago, my sister gave me a bright red coat for Christmas. I love it and I frequently get compliments when I wear it. At the time, I was feeling led to stop trying to be invisible and to let my light shine. Wearing my red coat is one of the ways I remind myself to do that.
